Frank Lloyd Wright’s Spire

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Spire

As you drive by the corner of Scottsdale Road the Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd you can’t help notice the tall blue tower at the corner. You may ask yourself “what is that crazy thing?” This is the “Wright Spire” originally designed for the Arizona State Capital building in 1957. It was rejected back then, but in 2004 the 125-foot-tall spire was built.

The structure is built of glass and 1,700 pieces of steel. The spire weighs upwards of 75,000 pounds. During the night the spire glows blue and green and can be seen from far off. The spire sits in a courtyard surrounded by desert plans, water features, and metal sculptures. There is a veranda in the courtyard for shade.
